Barbara and her husband Tom came to Thailand in 2001. Over the years they served in a variety of capacities but the encouragement of others was always a central theme. In 2012 they began working as English consultants with the Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University. When Tom was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, they chose to remain in Thailand and he was treated in the same hospital where they served as consultants. He remained joyful throughout the three years of treatment and his gentle passing took place in June 2018. The relationships built during his illness were reflected in the large turnout of doctors and medical staff who attended his funeral. Barbara continues to serve in Thailand and is now the director of the English consultant team at the university hospital. She continues to encourage others as she recruits and trains even more consultants who long to see the medical personnel at this Buddhist hospital know the hope and joy that is found in Christ. Barbara also has a hospitality ministry and opens her home to university students who desire to further their English skills. The relationships built both at the hospital and in her home provide opportunities to share her faith.
